Caramel Sauce with Milk – An easy recipe to make smooth, silky, salted caramel sauce which you can use as a filling in cakes, bars, and chocolates!

Growing up I used to love those little parcels of chocolate-covered caramel candies. And yes the ones without the chocolate too. Little did I know they were so easy to make. But times were different back then, no one probably made these treats at home here in India.
Without the luxury of the ‘www‘ there were no food blogs or videos, so we were always left with the processed packed ones. It was only when I started making some caramel sauce with milk at home, I knew how worlds apart homemade and packed ones are.

What goes into this easy caramel sauce with milk?
Super simple and easily available ingredients go into this. In fact, you’ll have them in your pantry/ refrigerator all the time. Only 5 ingredients are needed to make this sauce which are milk, butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.

This salted caramel sauce with milk recipe can be used on just about everything; the possibilities are just endless. Here are some ways I like to use them:
- As a dip for strawberries. You won’t believe how delish it is!
- To drizzle on smoothies
- On the sides of your tall glass of coffee
- Over popcorn to make salted caramel popcorn
- Drizzled over blondies or brownies
- In your DIY Choco caramel tostadas
- by the spoonful (LOL)

Storage Instruction:
This super easy salted caramel sauce with milk stores well in a refrigerator for over a month. Honestly, it never lasts for more than a week in our home. We finish it off well within a week. Anyway, when the sauce tends to crystallize a bit when stored in the refrigerator.

Diet and Allergen Information:
This sauce contains milk so it is not for people with lactose intolerant also not vegan. (But there is an alternative method given down below). It goes without saying that this salted caramel sauce with milk is not very healthy. It has sugar and hence lots of carbohydrates.
So in moderation or occasionally this is a great option to go with any of your desserts. On the other hand, this sauce is Gluten-free, vegetarian, and very shelf-stable.

Variations and Substitutions:
You can make this sauce with oat-milk or almond milk to make it lactose-free or vegan. Other milk like coconut milk isn’t the right fit here, but I’ll let you guys know when I get a good batch with it.
You can add a bit of cinnamon additionally or in place of vanilla extract. Vanilla extract can be totally skipped.
How to make this Caramel Sauce with Milk:

This is the easiest thing you’ll ever male in your kitchen. It literally takes only 10 minutes or less. To make this easy salted caramel sauce with milk you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Whole Milk – 1/2 cup
- Butter – 1/2 cup
- Light Brown Sugar – 1 cup
- Salt – 1/8 tsp
- Vanilla Extract – 1/8 tsp
Let’s see how to make this sauce in easy simple steps:
- Gather all the ingredients. Pour the milk and the butter in a saucepan and put it on heat. Melt the butter with the milk on low heat.
- Add the sugar and turn up the heat. Stir once to mix. Let it boil rapidly for 5-10 minutes until the mixture begins to thicken.
- Remove from heat. Add the salt and vanilla extract. Mix it through and let it cool down completely for 15-30 minutes. Once cooled use it directly as toppings or dips!

- To make the regular caramel sauce, reduce the salt by half which will be a tiny pinch. You can also skip the salt altogether.
- For a really salty caramel sauce with milk, use salt up to 1/4 a teaspoon.
- This sauce stays good in the refrigerator for up to a month.
- Mild Crystallisation happens when stored in cool weather conditions or when stored in the refrigerator. You need to gently heat it to bring it back to a pourable consistency.
