An easy way to make delicious, authentic, Italian Pizza Sauce at home. Perfectly cooked tomatoes by slow simmering makes this sauce unbeatable in flavor. Make this once and you'll never go buy a canned pizza sauce ever again!
Heat a heavy-bottomed pan or a Dutch oven. Add the oil and let it get hot.
Add the garlic first and sauté until it begins to turn golden brown.
Next, add the onions and sauté until it turns translucent.
Finally, pour in the tomato puree/tomato Passata into the pan. Add the salt and the seasonings.
Simmer uncovered at a low-medium flame for about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and use or store it for later!
Notes
Olive Oil: Extra virgin olive oil that is meant for stir-frying works great here. If you don't have olive oil, replace it with any flavorless vegetable oil.
Onions: Use red or yellow onions. You can choose to use lesser quantity or skip it altogether if you don't have onions or if you're not a fan of onions.
Garlic: Skip it or reduce the amount of garlic. But I suggest that you use it.
Consistency: If you are not bothered about the chunky texture leave this sauce as it is. If you want a spreadable sauce, split the sauce into two, and blend one part. Mix it both together. On the other hand, if you want a super smooth and spreadable sauce, blend them all!
Storing: Store in a clean glass jar and put it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To store in the freezer, store in an airtight container, or split into equal portions in different resealable bags.
Reusing frozen sauce: To reuse, thaw the frozen pizza sauce in the refrigerator overnight or put the freezer bags in warm water.
